I learned that the hard way.

In October 2023, I found myself sitting on the shower floor, holding my four-year-old son as I rinsed vomit off him for the tenth time that day. He was suffering, and I was physically and emotionally shattered. That moment marked the lowest point in my life; and also the clearest reminder of why I do what I do.

Fifteen months earlier, just after the birth of our third child, our middle son had his first seizure. By the following fall, he’d endured nearly 15,000 more. We faced unimaginable choices, including whether to pursue brain surgery to stop the seizures from doing further damage to his developing brain. We said yes.

After surgery, he had to relearn everything: sitting, eating, speaking. But slowly, he regained his spark. Today, he’s a lively kid—walking, talking, and mostly seizure-free, though his condition is progressive and unpredictable.

How did we survive those months? Because we’d built systems years earlier that carried us when everything else fell apart: insurance, defined caregiving roles, routines, and risk-mitigating plans. We didn’t know then how vital they would become. But they gave us options. They gave us hope.

That experience deepened what I already knew from two decades of professional experience: good systems aren’t about control; they’re about capacity, resilience, and choice.

Professionally, I’ve spent over 20 years helping businesses design those very systems. I’m a strategic operations and risk management consultant, and I partner with growth-stage businesses to bring clarity, structure, and sustainability to their operations. I’ve worked for a global insurance company, SAAS startups, and with solo founders. I’ve salvaged critical projects, scaled teams, coached emerging leaders, and built frameworks that helped organizations weather change without losing their soul.
